While San Francisco is not usually known for its beaches, it has stunning locations to spend a relaxing day at. The city is known for the iconic fog that rolls across the Golden Gate Bridge on warm mornings, and there is no better place to witness it than at one of the beaches.

Ocean Beach

Often best describe as a “pleasant” beach, Ocean Beach offers respite from the bustle of the city. The beach reminds visitors of the beauty that the local environment provides. It is the biggest beach in the area, encompassing the entire western side of the city. Looking out from the beach, you can see the Pacific Ocean. While it is a quiet beach, it is by no means unpopular.

Baker Beach

For those visitors looking for the wilder side of the city, Baker Beach might be what you are looking for. It is a nude beach but visitors include both clothed and unclothed persons. To the east of the beachfront, the iconic Golden Gate Bridge can be viewed in the distance. It is the most populated beach in the area. Several activities can be enjoyed here such as surfing, volleyball and Extreme Frisbee.

Aquatic Park

This beach can be found in the heart of the city. Referred to as an urban beach due to its position, it is a preferred choice by travelers due to the many tourist spots located close to it, such as Ghirardelli Square and Fisherman’s Wharf. Visitors often enjoy a Ghirardelli Sundae as they explore the beach. Because it is a bay, the sand and the water is softer, making wading in the area pleasant. With wheelchair-accessible walkways along portions of the beach, everyone can enjoy Aquatic Park.
